Merrie Monarch Parade 2012
The float for the Hilo Taiko Drummers.
In Hawai'i marching bands have hula girls instead of baton twirlers.
Hula girl on a float.
Home Depot had a float with Hawaiian musicians and some hula girls.
The Lim Family float had the family singing with keiki and Japanese hula dancers.
A float of Polynesian entertainers was part of the parade in Hilo.
Fanny from the Hulihe'e Palace was the Grand Marshall for the parade.

I went over to Hilo, Hawaii for the Merrie Monarch Parade, 2012. I had forgotten how humid it gets in Hilo, with some overcast, but no rain for the parade. There was lots of generator noises and diesel engine sounds. Everyone wants to have a PA system on their float, so with the generator sounds it was a little hard to hear the chanting.
A nice cultural parade.

Seven hours that featured Tahitian drumming and dancing along with food and crafts. There was also a little Samoan, Tongan, and some taiko drumming by the Daifukuji Soto Mission.Video and photos by Randy Magnus
