Hula in Kailua Village, Hawaii

Hula at Hulihe'e Palace and some Tahitian dancing out on Ali'i Drive. It was a fun hula time on a sunny Sunday afternoon as part of the Kokua Kailua block party.

Hualalai Road Grass Fire

This is what it looks like along Hualalai Road after the big grass fire that took two helicopters and many many firemen to put out. The fire came close to the senior housing units. I had to put up with the smoke and the smell for a couple of days.

Bobby Koanui and Hawaiian Music

Bobby doing a hula at his mom's funeral.

Bobby playing bass.

Bobby performing at Bongo Ben's.

I went down to the pier and played with Bobby Boy and Aunty Lei as the cruise ship came ashore last Wednesday. We played music and talked about scooters. Him and two others helped Aunty Lei on the back of my scooter, and I gave her a ride thru the village and to the end of the pier. And Bobby with 2 others helped this 75 year old lady back off my scooter.
Bobby and me rode off together on each of our scooters through Kailua Village, before going our separate ways. Bobby was a long-time scooter rider here in Kailua-Kona, and a long-time local Hawaiian musician.

He was the leader of the house band for the Kupuna Hula Festivals, the bass player for Uncle George Na'ope and for Aunty JoJo in Aloha Aina, played at the Kailua Pier when cruise ships would set anchor, and had his own band called Aloha In Motion with KonaBob.

Bobby Koanui passed away this afternoon.
