Big Waves Last Week At Magic Sands

The waves washed away the sand last week at Magic Sands Beach.

So I went to Kua Bay where there was still sand.

Keauhou Shopping Center Obon Festival 2009

The Bon Dance season kicked off in West Hawaii at the Keauhou Shopping Center, with Taiko drummers, hula, modern dance, and lots of people honoring their ancestors in dance and thought.

Ukulele Festival in Holualoa, Hawaii

Sam Rosen of the Ukulele Gallery was in his glory at the festival.

There was a block party up in Holualoa last weekend, paying homage to the ukulele and locally grown foods. Divine Goods was one of the hotspots, check them out sometime to see why. And Lani Lee's Hula group was performing at the post office.

Jazz keyboards of Byron Johnson at PaLeo Cafe

The uptempo, smooth jazz sounds of Byron Johnson can now be heard at Pa Leo (across from the Kailua Pier) on Saturdays evenings from 7pm to 9pm. So stop on by, have an Italian dinner and some wine, and listen to Byron who's on top of his keyboard game.
You can see Byron on YouTube by clicking here.

I got word that the funding has been discontinued for the Hawaiian musicians to perform at the Keauhou Shopping Center's Farmer's Market. So stop by and say hi to Mat, Jamison, and the boys for this Saturday, June 27th, 8am to 10am. It'll be your last chance.

Kailua Kona's Farmer's Market

Wijit with Baby Girl are just some of the Thais and Filipinos operating at the market from Wednesday through Sunday.

Wijit blesses the produce, hoping for a day of good sales at Uncle Billy's Kailua Kona Farmer's Market.

Art, Flowers, and Advertising in San Francisco

At the beginning of Geary Street are a lot of art galleries, including an exhibit of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.

The flower stalls are still lining the sidewalk with tulips and roses.

And the Old Navy had headless mannequins in interesting compositions.

I Found North Beach Everywhere

I strolled down Market Street, only to find Caffe Trieste had set up an outlet at Gough St. It started in the North Beach area.

Later on had dinner with famous night photographer Jerry Burchard with his Computer Tech at Cal Zones in North Beach. It was a wonderful time.

The Plane Ride Home

Just got back onto the island. Sat on the plane next to a 13 year old Japanese / San Jose kid who was reading Dante's Inferno.

She said she's already read some Shakespeare and hasn't started James Joyce, but has it. Time to put on the cut-offs and slippers (and to hope that my car starts.) Aloha.
